[2025] MX Series product update - new feature: normally open trigger/zero second flash duration

This article details an update to MX Series systems with the ability to set the flash duration down to zero seconds (normally open trigger).

Product applicability

This article applies to the following products:

  • MX Series: R247-MX
    • Systems that are using a third party trigger, which require the flashing beacon(s) to cease flashing as soon as the trigger is removed.

When did this update occur

MX Field App began supporting a zero second flash duration starting in 2025 Q3.

What software version is required

This feature requires MX Field App version 2.4 or newer.

What firmware version is required

This feature requires MX system firmware version 2.10.0 or newer.

Theory of operation

This setting is found by navigating to:

  • Operation —> MX Crosswalk Configuration —> Duration
    • Set duration to 0

Each system must be set individually.

A flash duration of zero seconds means the beacon(s) will flash as long as the trigger input to the MX system is held low (shorted).

This mode is not intended to be used for pedestrian activated crosswalk systems. RRFBs are limited to a flash duration of five seconds or higher.
