Do I have to wire "home run" cable harnesses for MX system or can I daisy chain from one flasher module to the next?
This article discusses the LED wiring options for MX systems.
Product applicability
The following products are discussed in this article:
- MX Series: R920-MX, R829-MX, R247-MX, CHEVRON-MX and WWD-MX
MX flasher modules come in four different options:
- RRFB
- Beacon
- LED Sign
- Chevron
These flasher modules can be wired two different ways:
- One harness per flasher module terminated to the power module on the pole (solar or AC); known as a "home run" or what we call a "centralized approach". We recommend the centralized approach.
- A second flasher module can be terminated to the first flasher module on the pole, known as "daisy chaining" or what we call a "distributed approach".
One Power Module
Two Power Modules
Push buttons can also be wired in a distributed approach where they terminate into the flasher module instead of power module for a simpler installation.
Refer to the Level 2 document of your model for more information here.
Chevron/LED signs do not have the terminals to support other flasher modules or push buttons daisy chained to them. These must terminate to a power module or RRFB/beacon.
To maintain reliable wireless communications between power module and flashers, the recommended maximum distance between power module and the farthest flasher module is 75 ft.
