Technical Bulletin B-110: Dec 2024 Critical Cellular Firmware Update

Product Applicability
This bulletin applies to the following MX Series products:
- MX Series: R920-MX, R829-MX, R247-MX, CHEVRON-MX and WWD-MX
Background
In November 2024, Carmanah deployed a critical firmware update that was automatically applied to MX Series systems. This firmware update is to designed to keep your system running smoothly as we transition to upgraded cellular technology, ensuring long-term reliability, security and performance.
- All new MX Series systems ordered after November 21, 2024 will ship with this firmware pre-installed.
- MX Series systems that were inventoried but not installed by February 11, 2025 will require an on-site firmware update using the MX Field App.
Procedure
If your system has been identified as requiring this firmware update, or your system no longer reports into MX Cloud, follow the instructions below for on-site firmware updating via MX Field App:
- Ensure you have the latest version of the MX Field App installed (version 2.6.1 or higher).
- Open the MX Field App.
- Tap on the system you wish to connect to.
- If required, gain access to the system's power module and pair with the system via Bluetooth.
- The app will display a warning that a critical firmware update is required. Tap Okay.
- Tap Check Compatibility.
- Tap Upload to begin updating the power module and any flasher module(s) connected to the system.
- Note: System-level firmware must be updated before the gateway (cellular) firmware. The app will automatically prioritize this. This process may take several minutes.
- Once all uploads are complete, the system will automatically reboot and reconnect. This may take several minutes.
- Tap Upload again to begin updating the gateway firmware.
- This process may take several minutes.
- The system will automatically reboot, reconnect, and verify the firmware status of each module. Once complete, all modules should display as up to date.
On-site firmware update utilizes your mobile devices Bluetooth connection to the system. Cellular data is not used during this process.

The cellular firmware update takes five minutes or more per system and in total it can take more than ten minutes per system if the power module/flasher module(s) require updating as well.
During the firmware update procedure, do not do any of the following:
- Move away from the system
- Power down the system
- Minimize or close the app
- Allow your mobile device screen to lock
- Power down your mobile device
- Turn off Bluetooth on your mobile device
Interfering with the update process may render the system inoperable.
