Product Applicability

This bulletin applies to the following products:

  • MX Series: R920-MX, R829-MX, R247-MX, CHEVRON-MX and WWD-MX

Background

In November 2024, Carmanah deployed a critical firmware update that will be automatically applied to MX Series systems. This firmware update to designed to keep your system running smoothly as we transition to upgraded cellular technology, ensuring long-term reliability, security and performance.

  • Carmanah will ship all new MX Series systems with this new firmware update pre-installed for new orders placed after November 21, 2024.
  • MX Series systems that are inventoried but not installed by February 11, 2025 will require an “on-site firmware update” using the MX Field App.

Procedure

If your system has been identified as requiring this firmware update, or your system no longer reports into MX Cloud, follow the instructions below for on-site firmware updating via MX Field App:

  1. Ensure you have the most recent version of MX Field App downloaded (version 2.3.0 or higher).
  2. Open the MX Field App.
  3. Tap on the system you wish to connect to.
    1. If required gain access to the system's power module and pair with the system.
  4. The app will warn you of a critical firmware update required. Tap on Okay.
  5. Tap on Check Compatibility. Read the description regarding the critical update and tap Acknowledge. If any system/flasher module updates are available this will be covered in steps 5-6. If not it will take you to step 7.
  6. Tap on Upload & Install. System firmware file(s) will begin to upload to each module in the system.
  7. Tap on Reboot and Leave once upload is complete.
    1. If any flasher modules are being updated at this time they will flash during the update procedure.
  8. Reconnect to system, tap Okay, tap Check Compatibility, and tap Proceed.
    1. The cellular firmware update will take several minutes.
    2. Once complete tap on Disconnect and wait a few minutes.
  9. Reconnect to the system and ensure the firmware is up-to-date without any updates pending.
    1. If the update is still in progress/installing, the app will warn this after reconnecting.

On-site firmware update utilizes your mobile devices Bluetooth connection to the system. Cellular data is not used during this process.

The cellular firmware update requires more than five minutes per system and in total it can take more than 10 minutes per system if the power module/flasher module(s) require updating as well.

During the firmware update procedure, do not do any of the following:

  • Move away from the system
  • Power down the system
  • Minimize or close the app
  • Allow your mobile device screen to lock
  • Power down your mobile device
  • Turn off Bluetooth on your mobile device

Interfering with the update process may render the system inoperable.
