The stainless steel mounting hardware on the G Series cabinet are galling, what can I do?

This article details the procedure for helping prevent the large stainless steel fasteners on the G Series cabinet from thread galling.

Product applicability

The following products are discussed in this article:

  • G Series: SC315-G, R820-G, R247-G, and R829-G
  • SpeedCheck: SPEEDCHECK-15 and SPEEDCHECK-18

In rare cases, stainless steel fasteners bind together or gall. If this does happen, it seems most common for the mounting brackets and u-bolt hardware on the G Series cabinets. The cause of thread galling is generally contributed to heat generated by friction.

Reduce the risk of thread galling by avoiding or slowing down electric drivers. In cases where the fastener starts to bind, immediately stop tightening and wait for heat to dissipate. Slowly turn the fastener in an alternate direction until it is loosened, then apply oil or anti-seize to the thread. Try fastening again by slow tightening with a hand driven tool. Replace the nut as required.
