How can I check the beacon activation count for my system?

This article shows how to determine the current pedestrian activation counts for your beacon system, whether you have a standard Carmanah beacon system or a Polara iNX/iDX push button.

Product applicability

The following products are discussed in this article:

  • E Series: R920-E, R820-E
  • F Series: R920-F, R820-F
  • G Series: SC315-G, R820-G

There are two methods of determining the pedestrian activation count:

  • Using the built-in activation count on the Energy Management System (EMS).
  • For systems equipped with a Polara iNX/iDX pedestrian push button, the Polara Field Service App can be used.

Procedure

E/F/G Series (ACT)
  1. Open the solar engine or power cabinet and scroll through the Energy Management System (EMS) user interface menu to activation count (ACT).
  2. The daily activation count will be shown as an average from the last 90 days of activity.
    1. If your system has been active for less than 90 days, the count is averaged over the number of days since it was first powered up.

The system needs to be powered for at least 24 hours before a value will be shown for average activations.

If the power has been removed from your system, you will lose any historical averaged activation count data held in volatile memory.

Polara iNX/iDX equipped systems
  1. Open the Polara Field Service App on your Android or iOS device.
  2. Connect to the specific button/system you wish to get the activation count from and enter its specific password.
  3. Navigate to the Counters menu.
  4. The app will display the current Flashing Cycles and Button Pushes.
    1. Flashing Cycles = increments a value of one for each time a full flashing cycle has been completed.
    2. Button Pushes = increments a value of one for each time the button has been pushed.

You can toggle on the Auto-Refresh Counters option so it will update in real-time while on the Counters screen. Otherwise, you will need to navigate in and out of this screen to receive an update.

If you have the Polara iDX push button,  you will also see a counter for iDetect Activations (contactless sensor). This is helpful in determining if pedestrians are adopting the use of the contactless sensor.

The Counters menu is available starting with firmware version 1.0.1. Refer to this article for information on updating the firmware for a Polara iNX/iDX.
